ZipList Grocery List & Recipes Review
Release Date: March 26, 2010
Helpful, but needs some work (by Olive&Sage on Sat, 20 Jul 2013 17:04:00)
This app is *almost* what it needs to be. I just downloaded, and when ZipList found my first recipe (via the web), I thought, "Amazing! Miracle! Exactly what I'm looking for!" The ingredients list smoothly transferred to a shopping list and included portion size. Super user-friendly. Then, I went for my second recipe and... wah, wah. ZipList didn't find it. Why this was extra disappointing is that the recipe is from the popular and well-used allrecipes.com. That's a major read glad for me and really disappointing. So second recipe, and I'm already mg back to keying in my shopping list, with nowhere to save the recipe. I suggest ZipIt enable you to copy and paste your recipe URL in. Easily, that would make this the perfect app!
What a genius idea (by DJ Butler on Mon, 15 Jul 2013 16:18:00)
Wonderful concept. Great App. Has completely changed my life at the grocery store. To the developer of this fine product ... You are a good man!
Awesome (by Blanwell on Fri, 12 Jul 2013 19:17:00)
This is the app I've always wanted. Syncs with computer, recipes and grocery list, compatible with multiple sites. Makes groceries easy.
I like this app! (by Mickeyy21 on Tue, 09 Jul 2013 01:01:00)
I have found a ton of healthy, easy, and cheap recipes on this app. I only wish I could get one to fit my iPad screen properly! You should definitely look into that. But otherwise this app is awesome!
Love Ziplist, but the need to add (by Lauren Za on Mon, 08 Jul 2013 04:13:00)
I love Ziplist, even the Ziplist app. However I would give it a higher rating if they added a menu planning feature to the app (like with the Ziplist website). Sometimes it helps with grocery shopping to see what recipes a person has selected and other items that might compliment those menu choices. Please consider adding this soon, Ziplist!
Where R my Recipes (by Sherritoo2 on Sat, 06 Jul 2013 01:13:00)
Really, really like this app, but it needs tweaking. I find my favorite recipes, download them, then they disappear. Where r they? Also, it would be nice to have a meal planner so I can make up a menu and add menu ingredients. I like "The Chew" recipes but have a devil of a time getting them to load with this app. Some recipes go to the web aren't linked specifically to the recipe n them I have to search the sight. Still love the app. Just need a little work.
Crashes!! (by Binky73 on Fri, 05 Jul 2013 03:46:00)
I am able to get into the app fine, but when I go to look at a recipe I've saved, the app crashes. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, no luck. Please fix this bug, it would be greatly appreciated!!
Wish the syncing worked (by Greenmombr on Tue, 02 Jul 2013 03:43:00)
I like the idea of this app for sharing a grocery list with my husband, but we never seem to have the same items even though we say the list is shared. I love that items are grouped by store department, but if he does the shopping without realizing his list is not up to date, we'll still have to make another trip.
Great app to organize recipes from across the web. (by kiowskil on Thu, 27 Jun 2013 16:02:00)
Great app for organizing recipes from across the web with pictures. Will be fantastic with addition of a few extra features, recipes organized by type, recipes queued at top of recipe file when you've selected them to add to your shopping list, or recipes highlighted inside shopping list, otherwise you have to keep your own "To Prepare Next List" on another app. Make it harder to delete recipes or items from the app.
Like it mostly-need better iPad version (by Axelrod76 on Sun, 16 Jun 2013 19:25:00)
I like many things about this App, but would love a more optimized iPad version. I like the syncing of grocery lists and the ability to have different lists for different stores. The Recipe feature in the app needs work. It works great in the desktop version, except for a few things I would change (ability to add Tags more easily, organize by Tags, etc.) For the App, I would like the ability to organize the personal recipe box in the app by most recently added instead of alphabetically, because it isn't always easy to find a recipe by its name. I would also like to see a more reliable search feature. Sometimes a common word yields the expected results, and sometimes it doesn't. Overall--great app for shopping lists, the recipe box needs some tweaks. Please optimize for the iPad and give the app more of the same functionality as the desktop version!
Needs a meal planner option. (by Argylesox on Fri, 14 Jun 2013 14:08:00)
I like this app but really wish it included a meal planner.
Complete waste (by ia_ramos on Mon, 10 Jun 2013 19:51:00)
I try to review a saved recipe via my ipad. The site requires me to use the app ( personally hate having to do that). I download the app, and when I try to viewing my saved recipe it takes me back to the web and stalls. I now have no way of viewing this recipe. What is going on?
What a great tool! (by Average Jane11 on Thu, 06 Jun 2013 19:36:00)
I just started using this app and the website and I am hooked. It's always been a struggle for me to decide what's for dinner and the recipe clipper and menu planning are the perfect combo to help. Also amazed at the shopping order feature and multiple lists. Can't wait to add in all my personal recipes. Great app!
Wonderful website, but... (by JustLesleigh on Thu, 06 Jun 2013 04:20:00)
We love Ziplist! We've been using Ziplist to keep out family's grocery list & to find new recipes for for quite some time. We hope & dream for the day the meal planning tools available in the app!! And while we're dreaming, maybe some prettier colors in the app ;-)
LOVE Ziplist, and really like the app (by Emmmmm on Sat, 01 Jun 2013 23:18:00)
I am a huge fan of the Ziplist website. It is the best way I've found to organize my recipes collected from anywhere on the web (plus you can create your own recipes and store them there privately). The site also allows you to build a grocery list based on recipes you plan to make, and you can also add whatever other grocery items to your list. That's where the app is super handy for me... It's on both my and my husband's iPhone, and so we can keep a synced list for whomever has to go shopping. The app could have some improvements but on the whole it's really meeting my needs. The main improvement I suggest is to make it harder to inadvertently check off an item in the grocery list. You touch nearly anywhere on the item's row and you check it off into your cart. Sometimes I want to add a note to the item but end up checking it off the list. Beyond that, I am a huge fan of Ziplist and this app!
Great Shared App (by Dougly the Great on Thu, 23 May 2013 19:45:00)
My lady and I have been using this app for a couple of months, it has really helped streamline our shopping and improved our communication. We haven't loaded all of our recipes in there yet, but that functionality seems to work well. I would like to see some type of menu function so that we can assign certain meals to certain days/times of day. At the end of the week, we still end up with food that hasn't been eaten because we forgot what it went to. All-in-all, even without the menu, it's a great app and recommend it to any couple that is looking for a shopping list app!
Deleted its (by Kae Rivenbark on Thu, 23 May 2013 16:39:00)
Deleting an item by mistake is too easy. I keep loosing items while scrolling down. How do I restore? Also is there a place to see the recipe I've chosen? I just have to remember and if several very confusing BUT! I like the sight and use it almost daily. A few tweaks and it will be great
Partners list (by Casa desousa on Wed, 22 May 2013 20:37:00)
Is there anyway that you can have a list of the partners and their recipes in the search option? I have a few websites that I love and it would be a lot easier to find the recipes.
Amazing for sharing between partners (by Jbon14 on Fri, 17 May 2013 00:15:00)
My wife and I have been using Ziplist for about a year and we love it. We always have a shared shopping list that either of us can add to or remove items from. Wish it had a "most frequently bought items" option in the app. Recipe functionality doesn't work great on iPhones. It's a little clunky and you can't kick webpages over to Safari.
Loved it but now it keeps crashing (by Gamr2 on Wed, 08 May 2013 11:41:00)
I've had this app almost from its infancy. Then just two days ago it started crashing every time. I can't even get it to open! I've tried reinstalling it. I feel so lost without it. Please, fix this!
Yay!!!! (by Big canuck -57 lbs on Mon, 29 Apr 2013 17:40:00)
Love this app! Made my life so easy!! I hope they keep improving it. I'm singing its praises to everyone. So far I've uploaded dozens if recipes from all manor if websites; it has never failed to pick up the ingredients from the most obscure websites -- it's seems to work above and beyond the sites it has partnered with. That's why it's so FABULOUS!! I've been looking fit a while for this one.
Nope (by Frustrated and displeased on Thu, 25 Apr 2013 13:53:00)
I just wanted a list where I could organize my aisles in the order they are in my store. This app is supposed to be able to do that. Following the instructions just put me in an endless loop and reorganizing aisles never worked. Also I do not like all the ads. I am deleting this app.
Can't see whole recipe (by LMC3vcu on Sun, 21 Apr 2013 20:52:00)
I don't know if it's just me, but I can't ever see the whole recipe in the app. It will only show me some ingredients and no directions. Can't figure out if there is a way to view it other than going to the web which kind of defeats the purpose of the app. Good concept, but needs work.
Okay but not great (by rbrock1225 on Sun, 21 Apr 2013 19:08:00)
I loved the idea of having my saved recipes at a single location. Checked their web site and confirmed that they have working partnerships w/Epicurious & Martha Stewart. Lovely. Sadly, they don't have an agreement w/Martha Stewart whereby they have access to user's saved recipes. Even more of a negative, as you bring up a recipe through the app or their web site it only lists the ingredients & their measurements. To have access to the directions, you have to access the original web site. That's quite irritating.
Useful but needs fixing (by Myplaytime on Thu, 18 Apr 2013 13:16:00)
I have found this ap useful for many months and encouraged others to get it. What I liked was that my family could add things to the lists using their iPhones and it would show up on my lists and vise-a-versa. Something now is causing that convince to not work properly and my daughter went to the grocery store and came back with things on her list that were months old that I had deleted from my list. The iPhone's are not syncing the ap anymore. It use to be so convenient, but now it is unreliable.
Great app! (by Lertub on Sat, 13 Apr 2013 20:44:00)
Love it! Love the online version too!
iPad app (by Chicago foodie1 on Mon, 01 Apr 2013 04:10:00)
I am starting to like this app a lot and was talking to my family tonight about it. They downloaded it, and I tried to send them recipes and there was no way to have them be able to add those I sent. Overall I love the app, and my main requests would be easier sharing w friends and fam, and an iPad version. Love thus for finding new recipes and creating shopping lists for myself. Will rate at 5 stars if these two items are worked on.
Great app! (by Trn73 on Sun, 31 Mar 2013 16:26:00)
Needs a bit of further development, but overall a very useful app. An iPad version would also be nice.
Please fix bugs! (by laBoogie on Sun, 31 Mar 2013 15:55:00)
I just updated this app yesterday for "bug fixes" but it didn't help! It's just a black screen when I open it. I really like this app so I hope you fix it soon or I guess I'll have to find something similar.
love app but... (by anj80 on Sun, 31 Mar 2013 00:33:00)
please fix whatever is making app not work....half the time I open app it just shows a black screen. I have deleted and reloaded app several times to troubleshoot but still acts up. really love this app but wish it was more reliable for me to actually see my list.
My favorite but it doesn't let you share! (by Bedrestmom on Fri, 29 Mar 2013 20:26:00)
I like this list. It allows me to keep different lists for the different stores I use. It does NOT allow you to share lists in a reasonable way. It doesn't find other users. Even after my husband installed the program, and we tried to connect/share the lists... He can't see them! I still have to email them to him. Also, clicking on the "help" link brings you to an "error" page!
Doesn't work at all. (by Sdoaned on Wed, 27 Mar 2013 15:45:00)
Horrible. Doesn't work at all. Had to create a new user id because it wouldn't let me log in with my existing id. Then not able to search for recipes. What a waste of time!
Excellent, but... (by Lizzzzzzyyyyyu on Sun, 24 Mar 2013 10:01:00)
I love this app on iPhone 4S But I cannot even find ANY version on my new iPad. Read other's reviews & apparently they found it... Disappointed cuz who's gonna use iPhone to follow a recipe? Also I would like to see some of the automatic category assignments improved. Also some more UPCs added to the date base, just saying... But this app is the BEST SHOPPING app I've seen!!
My New Favorite App (by 3DeesBoys on Fri, 15 Mar 2013 13:17:00)
This app does what I needed; it automatically adds ingredients to my shopping list in its appropriate category when I select a recipe. As I grab grocery items at the store its easy to check the box and have the item moved to my "Cart". Yes, there is room for some improvements, but it fits the bill as is.
Bummed (by Rc_v2 on Wed, 06 Mar 2013 13:53:00)
I got this app, expecting it to function like my web based link...where I can click the zip it link to grab a web recipe, ingrdients & picture. I also visited help link, in hopes that the option was buried & I could learn how to find it. The help link took me nowhere. I am bummed. I don't want to carry my computer around to grab recipes & sync to my recipe box.
Well done, but no real iPad app?? (by Lioness881 on Wed, 06 Mar 2013 00:38:00)
I initially downloaded this on my iPhone and I love that I can access my recipes without going to the web, add all the ingredients for a recipe to my shopping list, and that the shopping list is organized by section of the store...however, when I went to download it to my iPad to use in the kitchen I was disappointed that the only option was to download my iPhone version to the iPad... Why isn't there a true iPad app that isn't just an expanded version of what I can see on my iPhone?? We're on gen 4 of the iPad now folks...time to get with it...
Sloppy (by HeloCaptain on Sat, 02 Mar 2013 16:51:00)
First thing I did (as with all apps that offer it), was select the "Help" option. Results of selecting the "Help" option: A dead web page. Not a strong indicator of a well planned and implemented app. 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
Like it, but could love it (by Shelliott12 on Fri, 01 Mar 2013 13:50:00)
I would really like to see the recipes be labeled as used once items are added to shopping list or they could go into a menu for the week folder. If you go thru and add the items to your list, it's easy to forget which ones were added by the time your done. Then you have to go back and search them out to make them. Plus it's hard to keep track of how many recipes you've added to the list. You have to have pen and paper to use with the app as it stands now. It could be better!
Great app but doesn't sync with iPad (by Bostons87 on Thu, 28 Feb 2013 01:19:00)
Overall, I love this app for my smart phone but it won't sync with my iPad (which of course has to use the iPhone app). I check items off as purchased and this shows on my phone and the website, but not my iPad even though it says it did sync.
What's not to love? (by s ann on Mon, 25 Feb 2013 03:21:00)
This is, without question, the best app for shopping lists. And it's not just a shopping list. I've heard of ZipList before but I had no idea how amazing it is. I can't believe it's taken me this long to try it out. Glad I finally downloaded it!
Love Ziplist! (by E2hji5 on Sat, 23 Feb 2013 13:06:00)
I love Ziplist! I gave the app only 3 stars because there is no app for the iPad other than the iPhone version that has to be magnified to fit the iPad. I also gave it only 3 stars because you can't access the meal planner on the app. You can only do this through the website. The meal planner feature is one of my favorite things about Ziplist. Please add to the app!!
Helpful organizing tool! (by Helmet Cracker on Mon, 18 Feb 2013 21:38:00)
I love the fact that I can keep multiple grocery lists for different stores in the same app. The coolest feature is how it allows you to add any recipe to your shopping list! I definitely recommend to anyone who loves organization!
Love the app! (by Jmac7474 on Sun, 17 Feb 2013 19:23:00)
I love this app! It is very convenient. The reason I rated it 4 stars was because you can't access the My Meal Planner portion through the app, you have to go through the actual website. Other than that it is a very helpful tool for anyone who loves to cook and try new recipes!
Someday.... (by Wadzw0rth on Wed, 13 Feb 2013 02:20:00)
This app is pretty great. I give it three stars because you can create and share shopping lists, and the recipe maker is really cool. On the other hand, it's not a five star app because you can't share recipes, create recipes through the app (you have to do it from the online account), and there's no ipad specific app. All in all, worth it, but I'm looking forward to some future update that will give me more of what I want.
AMAZING (by Kerr4761 on Sun, 03 Feb 2013 15:42:00)
This is the app I have been dreaming of for years. I am a married working mother of 2 and am tired when I get home. I rarely have much time to plan meals between work and the kids activities. This is a lifesaver both in meal planning and grocery shopping. In addition, my family can add to my list at any time if they sign in to my account. You just gave me about 3 hours of my life back every week. Thank You!!!!!!!
Grocery shopping simplified (by ThePreciousOwnsMe on Sat, 02 Feb 2013 12:28:00)
I love how the app works with the website -- just awesome for planning upcoming meals. I'd like to see my meal queue in the app because I often don't stick to the meal calendar I set up and it would be nice to leave the meals I've planned and shopped for in the queue until I've checked them off as "made". It's a little too easy to check off items on the shopping list and I have to take them out of the "cart" often. Otherwise, it's my new favorite thing. Thanks!
Please add meal plan (by mel435 on Fri, 01 Feb 2013 23:22:00)
Love this app! But please add a meal plan option.
Great App, needs iPad support (by TheBiggmann on Wed, 30 Jan 2013 14:59:00)
I love this app. Best shopping list app I've used. My only complaint is that there is no iPad support, so when I want to look at recipes and use it in the kitchen I'm limited to a small screen. If this was universal/they made an iPad app it would easily be five stars!
Easy to accidentally check off items (by YogaRocks on Mon, 28 Jan 2013 17:17:00)
I used ZipList for the first time today. Shopping in the grocery store, I looked at my phone and half of my items were gone. Apparently I had been bumping the check off buttons as I held my phone. I was able to get them back as they had just moved from the list to the shopping cart, but unless you are aware that you have accidently checked off items, you may miss them. I think there should be a comfirmation button to move items to the shopping cart. I hope the developers see this review and take tihs into consideration for the next version. Thanks.
Great app but has some kinks (by Mela39 on Sat, 26 Jan 2013 15:12:00)
This app was fantastic but lately it won't sync the information I input online with the app. If that was fixed I would give it 5 stars.
